Erectile Dysfunction

A Closer Look:
Impotence, also known as erectile dysfunction, is a condition in which men are unable to achieve or sustain an erection. As many as 30 million men in the United States are estimated to suffer from impotence to some degree. Although impotence is often viewed as a natural consequence of aging, this isn`t the case. In fact, many healing traditions, such as Ayurveda, the healing system of India, and traditional Chinese medicine, regard impotence as a sign that overall health is declining.

Caution: Impotence, especially in men 60 years old and younger, can sometimes be an indication of undiagnosed heart disease. If you suffer from impotence and are not sure why, seek prompt medical attention.

Root:
Causes of impotence are divided into two classifications: physical and psychological.

Power Of Prevention:
Other preventive measures include eating a healthy diet, proper nutritional supplementation, and regular (at least three times per week) exercise. In addition, practice safe sex, using a condom to avoid infection.

Eat The Cure:

Aromatherapy: The following essential oils can help to reduce symptoms of impotence: sandalwood, jasmine, rose, clary sage, and ylang ylang.

Ayurveda: Ashwagandha , an Ayurvedic herb, can help to restore strength and relieve impotence related to chronic stress.
Diet: Avoid foods that are high in unhealthy saturated fats and low in fiber. Also avoid alcohol, caffeine, simple carbohydrates, refined sugars and sugar products, hydrogenated and partially-hydrogenated fats and oils, margarine, shortening, and all processed and commercial "junk" food. Instead, emphasize a diet of organic whole foods, with plenty of fresh, raw fruits and vegetables, oats, whole grains, nuts and seeds, especially pumpkin and sunflower seeds. Eliminate your intake of meat and dairy. Throughout the day, also drink plenty of pure, filtered water, and avoid foods that are overly spicy.

Flower Essences: For impotence caused by a lack of confidence or performance anxiety, Larch is often helpful. Crab Apple and Pine can both be useful for men who associate sex with shameful behavior and/or think it is a sin, while Olive can help men recover from impotence caused by physical exhaustion.

Herbs: The following herbs can often significantly improve impotence symptoms: Ginkgo biloba and yohimbe, both of which can help stimulate blood flow to the penis; Panax and Siberian ginseng, both of which act as adaptogens and have aphrodisiac properties; saw palmetto, for impotence in conjunction with benign prostratic hypertprohy (BPH) and/or prostatitis; and true unicorn root (Aletris farinosa ), which is also effective for both male and female infertility.
Other useful herbs include Cordyceps sinensis, damiana, garlic, oat straw (Avena sativa), potency wood (Muira puama), and Tribulus terresteris.

Homeopathy: Strychnos nux-vomica is useful for impotence and other sexual dysfunctions caused by excess alcohol, cigarettes, and/or poor diet. Other helpful homeopathic remedies include Agnus Castus, caladium, lycopodium, and staphysagria.
Caution: Since Strychnos nux-vomica contains small amounts of strychnine alkaloids, it should only be used under the supervision of a trained homeopathic physician.

Juice Therapy: Combine red cabbage, celery, and lettuce juice, and drink 8 ounces twice a day.
